Her research focuses on the radio and its role in social innovation. The main areas of interest are community radio both in a national and international context, radio in education, the role of community radio in community development and democracy building, and the impact of community participation on individual and community development. In the field of communication and journalism, she is interested in the areas of news, news editing, journalism training and citizen journalism. 

She has a background as a sociologist, journalist and radio presenter.
