Main research areas
Commonalities amongst different types of addictions
My main researchfield is exploring the common psychological and genetic markers of different types of addictions. The Reward Deficiency Syndrome model (RDS) proposes a so-called hypodopaminergic trait, which plays an important role in substance use and potentially addictive behaviors as well. The theoretical model of RDS indicates impulsivity, novelty seeking traits and certain genetic markers linked to the reward cascade, the dopamine system as key elements of this syndrome. My research focuses on investigateing these relationships on an empirical level.
