An analysis of the theoretical background of museum education in the 21st century; more broadly, attempts to redefine museum education and museums in general, academic reflections from national and international organisations and research networks on the changing mission of museum institutions. The research seeks answers to the question: in what ways have alternative and reform pedagogies (art education reforms) influenced and are present in the practice of museum pedagogies today? In what ways are theoretical and practical starting points sought and found in earlier predecessors? Can we consider 21st-century digital museum education as a 21st-century form of reform pedagogy proper?
