PPK teacher received Junior Prima award
This year, the Junior Prima Awards in the category “Hungarian science” were held for the 16th time in the building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS). Zsolt Horváth, assistant professor at ELTE PPK, is among the ten young scientists.

In 2007, the Hungarian Development Bank and the Prima Primissima Foundation launched the “Hungarian Science” category of the Junior Prima Prize, in which MFB supports the winners with HUF 2-2 million. The prize is awarded to young scientists under the age of 33 who have contributed significantly to the development of Hungarian science through their outstanding scientific work, international achievements, educational and community-building activities. The winners were selected again this year by experts in their respective fields at the request of MFB. Zsolt Horváth received the award in the psychology category.

Zsolt Horváth graduated from ELTE PPK in clinical and health psychology, obtained his PhD in 2021, and is currently an assistant professor at the Institute of Psychology. His research focuses on chemical and behavioral addictions, and he focuses on identifying the psychological characteristics of problematic alcoholics and drug users.

Among his most important professional achievements is the fact that he and his colleagues created the typology of Hungarian alcoholics, identified tolerant-inactive coping among the relatives of people with alcohol problems (the relative takes steps in a self-sacrificing way to save the drug user or may appear to accept the problem) and was the first to establish the role of anger-rumination (repetitive, passive way of thinking) in the development of problem cannabis use. His research contributes to a more accurate understanding of the situation - not only in Hungary but also in Central and Eastern Europe, where he has also conducted studies, some of his research also providing the basis for preventive and therapeutic interventions. He is the author or co-author of numerous publications and was awarded the Sapere Aude Junior Prize in 2021.
