Memory in Conversations: A Key to Episodic Memory Expansion or a Way to Make Memory Fragile
The ability to remember plays a key role in human cognition, as it is not only a rich repository of knowledge that allows us to adapt flexibly to new situations and to plan for it, but also plays a significant role in maintaining an extensive network of social relationships. Underlying the comprehensive, multifaceted use of memory is the intuitive idea that our memory abilities can be relied upon, that our memories are authentic and trustworthy. At the same time, many decades of experimental psychological research have led to the conclusion that the nature of our memory is reconstructive: while being flexible and adaptable to environmental challenges, it can easily become fragile and unreliable.
The aim of the present project is to develop a theory that can explain the adaptive role of episodic memory together with its accompanying phenomenological experiences in a developmental angle.
