Päivi Tynjälä is a Professor in Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her research field is teaching and learning in higher education, and her special interests are learning at the interface of education and work, workplace learning, teacher education, and the development of generic skills in higher education. She has published widely both nationally and internationally, and in 2010-2013 she served as Editor-in-Chief of Educational Research Review.
Abstract of the lecture
The topic of the lecture is “Work-Related Learning in Higher Education”. As an introduction to the topic, recent global challenges and future skill needs will be first discussed. Then different forms of work-related learning and partnerships in higher education are presented based on examples from Finland and other European countries. The third part of the lecture will focus on pedagogical aspects of work-related learning, introducing the Model of Integrative Pedagogy which emphasizes close connection between theory and practice.
