Twists and turns of PhD research
Following the progress of EDiTE researchers and of Hungarian
Venue: Kazy room 306, 307
The European Doctorate in Teacher Education (EDiTE) is the first European project focusing on the doctorate level with the topic of teachers’ learning. Five European institutions – including the Faculty of Education and Psychology- have been collaborating since 2012 resulting in the creation of the research program „Transformative teacher learning for better student learning within an emerging European context” and a related doctoral program. At ELTE, two institutions, and within one of the institutions two research units have developed a research framework, the “Learning Teacher” programme, that is connected to both the consortium level research program and to the ongoing researches of the respective research units.
In April 2017, a workshop conference was held at ELTE PPK with the aim to follow the almost one-year-progress of the Learning Teacher programme. In addition, the Hungarian PhD students also had a chance to present their researches. Encouraged by the success of this joint event, the organisation of successive workshop conferences was planned.
Aims and participants of the workshop
The aim of the second workshop is to provide an opportunity for young researchers to present their researches, while learning about the researches of their peers, to share methodological questions and receive feedback from senior researchers and peers.
This time, two EDiTE students who are currently doing their secondment at ELTE will present their researches together with two ELTE-EDiTE researchers who have been working on their individual researches since March 2016 in the frame of the Learning Teacher program at ELTE. In addition, four Hungarian PhD researchers will take part in the workshop, in mixed groups with the EDiTE researchers. There will be two parallel sessions, each consisting of a mixed group of four EDiTE and Hungarian researchers.
Our invited guests include Faculty members, the Institute of Education, the Institute of Adult Education and Knowledge Management, the Institute of Intercultural Education and Psychology. Our special guests will be the representatives of the EDiTE-Partner Organisations.
The Learning Teacher Program
The Learning Teacher program was initiated in the development phase of the EDiTE project. Two research units of the Faculty of Pedagogy and the Institute of Research on Adult Education and Knowledge Management at ELTE took part in it. The LTP have three main thematic pillars, which is the basis of the researches of the 3 ESRs, respectively. The focus of the three pillars is work-based and practice-based teacher learning from three different perspectives. The first ESR research examines the role of teacher education programmes in the development of teacher competences, the second focuses on innovative learning environments and the third compares professional learning of teachers and that of other professions.
The first preliminary research results, a roadmap of the researches have already been presented in May 2016, in the frame of the Learning, Knowledge and Innovation 2016 conference, organised by the Institute of Research on Adult Education and Knowledge Management. The researches were also presented in the summer school of the consortium in June 2016 and 2017 in Brno and Wroclaw, respectively. The first and second internal academic papers have been prepared. The third academic papers are due. The research progress will be presented in the joint EDiTE-NAFOL summer school in 2018 in Budapest.
